4 tips for managing returns on Mercari

Read on for tips on minimizing returns, how to protect yourself, and what to do if items do get returned.

Team Mercari

We’ve made changes to our returns policy on Mercari, so buyers can shop with confidence, which helps sellers make more sales. And, we want sellers to know they’re protected from fraudulent returns. Here’s the scoop on how to minimize the potential for send-backs, and what to do if items get returned.

  1. Keep it real: When listing, provide clear pictures and honest descriptions. Include measurements, and describe any flaws, so there’s no misrepresentation.
  2. Take a quick pic before you ship: For your records, snap a few pics of the item’s condition before shipping. It’s good to have on hand, in case items get damaged during shipping.
  3. Communicate: If a buyer requests a return, ask for feedback and try to understand their concerns to potentially address any issues.
Note: Returns must be requested within 3 days vs. up to 30 days on other marketplaces.
  1. Inspect Returns: When you receive a returned item, inspect it carefully to ensure it's in the same condition as when it was sent. This is important for maintaining trust and integrity on the platform. Use your pre-ship pic as reference, and reach out to us within 24 hours if there’s any discrepancy.
